VIRTUAL: SBIRT for Risky Health Behaviors (4/21/2021 & 4/23/2021 Virginia Home Visitors ONLY)

APR 21, 2021
9:30 am EDT

The Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment tool guides the home visitor in assisting clients with both immediate feedback on potentially harmful behavior and a longer-term solution through referral to additional treatment or resources beyond what the home visitor can provide. This training explains the use of the tool and teaches how best to do a brief intervention and how to use screening tools including Virginia’s Behavioral Health Risks Screening Tool for Women of Childbearing Age. Participants will describe the reasons why Home Visitors should screen women for substance use, intimate partner violence, and mental health concerns, practice tips and techniques that can be used when screening as well as learn how to provide a “brief intervention.” ***Note: Motivational Interviewing (Classroom or Virtual Training) is a pre-requisite for this class. It is also recommended that you complete the online Institute module, "Why Screen Women for Substance Abuse, Intimate Partner Violence, Mental Health and Perinatal Depression?" *** If possible, please print the associated handouts/materials listed to the right, except for the PowerPoint handouts (not necessary), and have them available on the day of the training. The training takes place from 9:30-12:30 on BOTH days, April 21st AND April 23rd. The Zoom link for this virtual training will be provided several days prior to the training. If for any reason you cannot attend this training ahead of the specified date, please cancel your registration or email amarkow@earlyimpactva.org prior to the start time. Thank you!
